Meals on Wheels Diablo Region (MOW Diablo Region) has been nominated nonprofit of the year by the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce. There are currently 15 contenders, including the Down Syndrome Connection, Danville Children’s Guild, The Crayon Initiative, and more.
Since 1968, MOW Diablo Region has been providing lifesaving services to seniors, delivering over 600,000 meals in the past year alone. The need for the organization's supportive services has increased, with a 150% rise in Fall Prevention and more seniors receiving Friendly Visits and Calls to prevent social isolation. The Care Management program helps seniors struggling with challenges like depression, eviction, and elder abuse. Last year, the organization delivered 693,815 meals, made 12,674 Friendly Calls, delivered 5,057 Grocery Bags, made 973 Friendly Visits, served 529 Breakfast Bag clients, helped 463 seniors with errands, modified 306 homes, and made 98 elder abuse interventions. These statistics demonstrate the significant impact that MOW Diablo Region has on older adults in Contra Costa County!
Renee Morgan, MOW Diablo Region Board Member and Danville Town Council Member, was nominated Citizen of the Year! Here is a message about Morgan from Patty Harris, Blue Star Mom: "Danville Town Council Member Renee Morgan is so dedicated to supporting residents and improving the Town of Danville and surrounding areas. She goes above and beyond to bring needed services and is always attending/supporting our Businesses, Veterans, Non-Profits, and community events. We can always count on Renee to be our voice. She is hands-on and boots on the ground. Proud to nominate her for this much-deserved recognition."
Thank you to the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce for recognizing the vast accomplishments of all nominees. Congratulations to all of the other amazing nonprofits doing work to support the community.
